The Ward Beck design used LM201/301 opamps in what's called FEED FORWARD mode.
Those particular opamps run that way can meet or exceed the highest sonic
standards-and actually can (and do!) outperform, the 5534. They blow away
circuits that used the TLO72.

There's nothing wrong with thsoe cards sonically at all-except perhaps for the
non-polarized tantalum caps.

One curiosity: This particular mixer made extensive use of the LM201N
uncompensated op-amp on a lot of its input channel strips. Given the stability
and availability of chips like the TL072 (which I found in great abundance
when harvesting a burned out cart deck), this seems an interesting design
choice. Anyone know why this was such a favorite component in WBS design
philosophy?
