[BC] Brain Dead Engineers

In my younger days I was working in an AM transmitter building with a 
veteran radio engineer.  It was the middle of the night and there was a 
thunderstorm in progress.  Heavy lightning flashes kept knocking the 
transmitter off the air.  After a little while my
friend excused himself, went out side the building and returned.  When he 
returned he told me he had "bent the spark gap closer together".
This guy was a longtime transmitter engineer for one of the Corporate 
broadcasters in
Chicago.  He's is now deceased....of natural causes.  Would he have 
qualified  as "brain dead"?
