In earlier times, people who bought things like this were not allowed to breed. They were confined to various institutions and kept out of harm's way. The idea was not only to protect such individuals from themselves, but also to protect the rest of society from harmful genes.

Unfortunately, as medical technology developed, chemical treatments were invented that allowed previous mental institution inmates to be released into society. These chemicals masked the symptoms, but did not cure the underlying diseases.

Electro-mental diseases are pervasive. I have found that even my best friends are not immune. While helping a friend, an Electronics Engineer with a Master’s degree, move to his new home, I bought a roll of zip-cord to hook up his new HI-FI speakers. He questioned using 60-cycle wire for his 20 kHz audio system, but I thought it was just a game he was playing.

A few weeks later, I was invited to his house-warming party and noticed that the #14 high-current zip-wires I had installed, had been replaced by #18 "oxygen-free" speaker wires at $120 per roll, $60 per connection.
