I don't use the graphical tools. I edit stuff using `vi`. Every PC person who wants to access private data needs an account on your machine. This means that you need to set a username and password. Also, you need to use `smbpasswd` to set the passwords for the Samba server.

A shared folder can all be accessed using the same name/password. If your domain name is "foo.com," just create an account for "foo" with a password everyone knows and use that for the shared stuff.

If you want me to send you an /etc/samba/smb.conf file that works, let me know off-line

Ok, *nix fans, somebody tell me what I'm missing in my first install. I'm
trying to rush it a bit, and I'm getting frustrated with it.

I'm beginning to think I'm supposed to be creating some sort of user or
account on the Samba servers for each windows machine I expect to have
accessing the 'shared folder' on Samba.

  Am I right?
(By the way, NAS really sets up fast. It sure is tempting to use it here.
Needs to be the print server too though)
