OK, so this made me start to wonder...

It costs us roughly $20/hour to power the datacenter (computer load + 
cooling) if we're on mains.   Actually slightly less if we run on 
generator, but there are indirect costs there...

If everybody was willing to shut off the Internet overnight for 8 
hours/day, that would save us around $4,800/mo on our power bill. 
$57K/year!!!

I think that would be a tough sell on the customers, even the "greenest" 
of users.   But the thought made me chuckle.
