When I was a kid, I was addicted to "sci-fi" comic books.  I probably had a
couple of hundred comics in my bedroom at any given time.  After each had
been read several times, they became trading stock.  
One of my favorites involved a late night DJ, who was just terrible.  One
night, his long monologue was particularly pathetic.  His studio was
co-located with the transmitter site, out in the boondocks.  Looking through
an outside studio window, the DJ saw an alien spacecraft land and he
proceeded to describe the bizarre situation over the air.  If any humans
were listening, they surely thought it was more of this guy's constant
drivel.  The aliens broke into the station and dragged the screaming DJ away
from his microphone.  Any human listeners would have thought this to be
another one of this DJ's hoaxes.  The DJ's final disposition was left to the
reader.  I guess the aliens were listening to this announcer and couldn't
stand him, either.  Scary stuff, at the time for a nine or ten year old.

" I remember this episode but there was another where a nighttime 
substitute jock wanted to be heard far and wide. He went to the 
transmitter and cranked it up to a bazillion watts, I guess, No one 
would notice at that time of night, he thought. He had created a path 
where the alien could come to Earth. There was no experimenting. He 
was doing his show when the creature appeared in the transmitter room 
with the usual sparks and lightning. The transmitter could be seen 
from the studio. Everything was in a single building.
