I never found configuring them difficult. Most of what I have done is
just set up the Extreamers to be used as listen lines for stations
without commercial streaming. ISPs don't have problems selling static
IP addresses, so the only issue there is how long they take to turn it
up. Having control over the firewalls makes that a non issue too.
On the other hand, I do think it is something people might buy.
Sometimes static IP addresses are impossible to get, and some places
have firewall issues. Some people are not skilled in network
configuration, so there is likely a market.
While I have found static IP addresses to be reasonably priced, if you
can do the service for less, that is yet another plus. (I have also
treated my cable and DLS home circuits as static as they very rarely
change. Even if I turn off the "modem" for 10s of minutes, I
frequently get the same IP address. I know they used to rotate them
from time to time, and I assume they still do, but not frequently. Of
course, I would never depend on the DHCP not changing my IP address
for anything even close to important.)
While I cannot see that I would ever need it, I also believe it would
sell.
