If you didn't attend the meeting of theMadison WI SBE chapter at the Broadcasters' Clinic in Madison WI this evening, you missed a rare treat. Andy Rector, Chuck Kelly and other former ITC employees did a remarkable presentation on the history of the analog audio cart machine, complete with audio, pictures and actual machines that ranged from the original ATC cart decks, Mackinzie Repeaters, Gates ST-101 SpotTape machines and pretty much every manufactured cart deck product all the way up to the ITC series 99 machines. The audience participation in filling some gaps was remarkable, but there were several holes in the history--- the biggest one concerning the trivial ones. The question of the night was proposed by Andy Rector, when he recalled that Jack Williams of Pacific Recorders had once told him that 'Tomcat' was an acronym for something, but he couldn't remember what. So, group, does anyone know the meaning of that acronym?

Bill Sacks, you got some credit for improving the audio quality of ITC Premium Line series machines, and you weren't even here to defend yourself.

Andy also mentioned that there is some sort of Tape Cart Reunion scheduled for later this month in Bloomington,IL
