	19 Feb 1971, The Canon City Colorado Jaycees had 
just elected new officers and were having a 
Friday night banquet to install the new 
officers.  I was one, another was a guy named 
Ford.  ( I forget his first name.)  I was the 
news director of the local radio station, Ford 
was a civilian employee of the NORAD guys up on 
Cheyenne Mt. In Colorado springs.  We both 
celebrated a bit to much. The morning of 20 Feb 
1971, Ford called in Sick, his substitute opened 
the safe, grabbed the wrong punched tape and 
loaded it on the national distribution 
machine.  Next thing you know, I get woken at 
home by the part time DJ on duty telling me he 
has an actual alert on the UPI ticker.  You know 
the rest of the story from there.  Somewhere I
