OK, granted.
However, a 96 kHz (sampled), 24-bit recording is going to be a better
approximation than any analog system I know of.
Indeed, 48 kHz, 24-bit is still better than any analog I know of.
Now, we were talking about bit-rate-reduced audio - and there you have a
different set of impairments than you have with analog tape systems.
