I seem to recall about 1988, Tim Cutforth of Vir James inc.  presented a paper
at the NAB abut using an above ground, but laid on the ground, loop antenna
for a temporary emergency antenna.  His studies as I recall were done on the
160 meter ham band.  I don't recall much abut it, but I believe he concluded
it was not very efficient but a viable temporary antenna.  If I can find my
minutes book from that far back I'll look it up.
