[BC] Looking for Networking (LAN) tool

As I'm now having to install/repair/maintain several station clusters,
including the LANs, I could sure use a computer program that will
automatically map out a LAN, showing each computer/printer/terminal,
servers, and especially switches, hubs, routers, etc., and identify them
with their IP addresses (preferred) or MAC addresses (if no IP address). If
it can identify which port on a switch or hub each device is connected to,
that would be wonderful.

Is there such a program out there? Second, and you know this was coming, is
there such a FREEWARE progam out there? Or am I wildly optimistic? Are there
any program(s) that will do at least PART of this?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! Some situations I suspect I am
facing is that two switch ports have been inadvertently connected together,
or possibly two separate switches have been connected together with two
separate cables. Either of these situations causes lots of problems.
