It looks to be the similar technology as in HD AAC (High Definition
AAC). In other words, MP3 HD looks to be to HD AAC what MP3Pro is to
HE AAC (aka aacPlus).
They don't say, however, whether it is scalable. With HD AAC, if the
transmission bitrate is high enough you get lossless decompression.
However, if the bitrate drops below the critical bandwidth, you get
something in between lossless and fully lossy compression. If the
bitrate is low, you get AAC core only (the fully lossy part).
AAC being a better codec than MP3, I would go with HD AAC over MP3 HD.
Afterall, it's based on MPEG-4 standard.
Which ever codec, I'm very glad to see things _are_ moving towards
quality (ie. lossless coding). Lossless coding fully deserves to carry
the "High Definition" tag, unlike some other...
