[BC] Amateur radio spectrum

Guess you haven't been reading what I've been saying.
If you want to save amateur radio for yourself and
your children, you need to participate in the spectrum
reallocation that will be happening.

It is happening, not because I'm an advocate, but because
one can't hide new technology forever.

Now, you can certainly spend your money any way you
want (as long as your wife lets you!) That's not the
point. The point is that all the fixed-frequency
VHF on up allocations are going to go away. It's
going to be forced by other countries. Right now,
the EU is proposing vast changes to aircraft
communications. If that happens, the old-fashioned
VHF AM (correct) communications used for aircraft
will eventually go away. If you don't think they can
pull it off, thing again. The international aviation
distress frequency of 121.5 and and its second harmonic
is no longer being monitored! See
 http://www.cospas-sarsat.org/firstpage/121.5phaseout.htm

In the US, most control towers and some en-route radar
facilities still monitor it, but they won't be replacing
any receivers that die.

So, what I'm getting from this whole thing is that I should not renew
my ham license this year since I'm a spectrum hog and should feel
profoundly guilty about using antiquated transmission techniques.
Thanks for ruining the one thing in my life that has started to bring
me pleasure.
I guess that money I've been saving for a new HF rig will be better
spent on that Delta table saw I've been wanting.
