I'm pretty resistant to changes in these
programs; I use a relatively small set of
certain features and rarely deal with
         the rest.

That said, I am quite happy with Office
2007, at least the ability in Word to
bring the options I *do* use to the ribbons.
         and the quick access bar.

Just two examples: I can set a style, and
apply it to incoming documents to
instantly change from the strange and
bizarre fonts. sizes and margins that some
people use to what is easy for me to
handle. Second, now that I have stuck
"page width" view in the quick access bar,
no matter what size the incoming doc is, I can
pop it up to fill the screen.

2007 does have a new file format, to save all
the formatting in a different way, but you can
easily save and exchange files in .doc format -
even make it the default. (same for excel
         and .xls, etc)

The last word: it depends on the user. Most
people use less than 15-20% of the feature set
of an application. IF they need it, it is worth
the upgrade. If not, the only reason for
upgrading is to make things easier for the
         system admin.

In my case, I am much happier with 2007
(after a few visits to the Help file, to
relearn a thing or two). Your mileage, as
         they say, may vary.

>Vista isn't an option.

         The feeling of many.

A lot of folks are happy with XP ... and see
no need to change. Just make sure you have
the latest Service Pack and security fixes.
