Ah, yes, the magic. My science fair project in 1961 was a scratch-built 
'solid state', the term then popular, AM portable complete with fancy 
styling and somewhat hi-fi sound. Art and tech were even then poles 
bouncing me around. 'Styling' was then unheard of at a science fair - still 
is, I'm sure.

I tuned the IFs and RF amp to WOWO, which was DXing to me in Toledo at the 
time. Then the trimmers were peaked to WOHO 1470.
