OK, you talked me into it...

First actual exposure was when I was in fifth grade, I believe it was.
Our grade school did a Christmas Concert (And to this day, I don't know
if it was live or recorded for later) on KWPM AM/FM,West Plains, MO.
After the "concert", us kids got a tour... and what I remember more than
anything else was all those warm, glowing tubes in the transmitter.
That, and Art Linketter's books - "People Are Funny" and another one,
both full of anecdotes about his early days...... Hey! Radio is FUN!
AND you get PAID to do it!

So.

Next time my voice knowingly modulated a carrier was when I entered
college; WAJC, Indianapolis - Butler University.

Then came WIFE AM/FM, Indianapolis; WXTA, Greencastle - where I did
news, and found out as a news reporter, I made a darn fine DJ...

and then got my First, and wound up getting stiffed when I went the
private contractor route... from which I'm still trying to recover
fifteen-plus years later.

<sigh>

Some day - the season will turn again, and I'll be "Living on the air"
again...

Or, as I parody Willie Nelson... "On the air again, the life I love is
playing music for my friends..."
