Star Trek featured this theme, but with a war between planets. (Ameniar 6 and 
7?)

Their war was all virtual, including the "casulaties" who willingly stepped 
into disintegration chambers when told to do so. When Kirk & co destroyed the 
computers, the other planet was all too willing to talk "peace" to avoid the 
horrors of real war.

As for the virtual Trade Show concept... that sounds interesting, to a point. 
As another mentioned, you'd lose some of the social interaction, unless that 
was built into the whole VR system. (We already have lots of it, with IM and 
live audio/video, etc.)
