Some experiment you might want to try is to hook an
analog signal generator to the input of a sound card
and use your favorite encoder to create MPEG-3. Let
the tone be steady-state at mid-range, then occasionally
move the frequency.
Now listen to the resulting file. Every time the frequency
is changed, there is an audible CLICK!
They didn't bother to test this stuff and it is now
the "standard!" No wonder even FM stations sound so
bad nowadays.
I found this out when I was converting some ".wav" files
to MPEG so they could be downloaded from one of my
web pages at a reasonable rate.
Cheers,

If you can afford 96 kpbs, for best sound quality it needs to be AAC,
not AAC+. I guess it's a tiny difference in labelling so it often
gets misinterpreted, but it's a significant difference in sound. Let
me clarify a little bit.
