You mean Star Fleet.
Actually, that's NASA's mantra as well. They like triple independent
redundancy on as many major systems as practical. Each system capable of
supporting nominal operation of all major systems.
If the main fails, you might not have all the lights, bells and whistles.
But you also won't have a dead stick either.
