[BC] In search of Harris SX1

My experience with the SX series is not if you'll need to replace
transistors, but when.
I made replacements- about 2 per year and usually after severe weather on
these transmitters, even when new
and very well matched to the antenna system. The transistors should be
replaced in matched pairs for best results.
And these parts are no longer available from Harris nor anyone else that I
know of. So essentially you'll be buying a box that will eventually be
running at reduced power and eventually, no power out. I used to really like
these boxes back 15/20 years ago, but they were a product of their time and
now obsolete (also, the SX status display LED/driver chips from Texas
Instruments are no longer available IIRC, and they also seem to die
relatively frequently.)

Paul,

TRUST ME-you do NOT want an MW-1. They are service nightmares. The SX 1
isn't
much better. Both these transmitters are OLD-the MW1 would be over 30 years
old and the SX1 approaching 25. Do you really want to buy someone else's
problems? If this guy is so desperate, then find the space for a Gates BC 1H
or RCA BTA-1MX. Even an old CCA 1 kw tube rig would be better then these two
junkers. At least there's enough spare parts out there to keep the tubers
working.
