[BC] In search of Harris SX1

I concur. I'm much rather babysit an old tube transmitter
than an old MW1. Because of the low impedances, SS transmitters
are always wearing out electrolytic capacitors. Oil capacitors
in tube transmitters don't have a wearout mechanism although
once every 100 years or so you'll hear about one failing. If
you keep a vacuum tube transmitter clean and with the CORRECT
filament voltage, the tubes will last two years or more.

It's true that there have been problems with manufacturers
forgetting how to make 4-400 and 4-1000 vacuum-tubes, however
they are available surplus and you can even get them from
Russia.

Paul,

TRUST ME-you do NOT want an MW-1. They are service nightmares. The SX 1 isn't
much better. Both these transmitters are OLD-the MW1 would be over 30 years
old and the SX1 approaching 25. Do you really want to buy someone else's
problems? If this guy is so desperate, then find the space for a Gates BC 1H
or RCA BTA-1MX. Even an old CCA 1 kw tube rig would be better then these two
junkers. At least there's enough spare parts out there to keep the tubers
working.
