 While I've used humor to illustrate a point, as in why do we need to
 pay the support contract on X ? We didn't use it last year.
 Uh, did you pay the fire insurance premium on your house?

 I always always do it in a way, and with intent to illustrate a point
 in a manner that they can understand.
 Yes, we sometimes get frustrated, but.....

 Also as Rod says, if on equal footing, or with someone who is getting
 to know me and can appreciate the sarcasm in the humor, then I
 might, depending on the particular circumstances.
 As in....
 How are we going to fix this ?
 Call for an air strike, and start over !
