Hello:

I am interested in collecting some good comeback comments.

I'm sure you've been, at one time or another, had an exchange with a manager
when requesting equipment or project approval, that goes something like this.

When I worked in (insert name of market/station cluster here) we never had to
do that.

-or-

I have never heard of a need like that from ANY other station, and I talk to
a lot of other stations/managers.

-or-

New equipment is not supposed to fail (condescending tone of voice).

-or-

Our (piece of equipment) may be (age/support status) but it is still working,
and I don't see why we need to repair/replace ours.

-or-

No other stations have to fix (problem or issue) so why do we have to fix it?
It's not a problem anywhere else but here.

-or-

When I was visiting (station/market) I noticed that their file transfer
system works way faster than ours. What are they doing that we're not?

-or-

Why did we buy (product x) when ALL OTHER stations have purchased (product Y)
to do this task?

And other "band wagon" kinds of responses these issues are largely a function
of engineering/management sales skills; I get that already.

What are your favorite one-liners that pull the rug out from under a person
using the sophomoric logic similar to my examples above?

"Well, this is not (station cluster/Market)" is from Zinger 101, and is a bit
condescending. I already know that one :-)

I do pretty well in these situations, but I'm looking for some ways I can
make these situations a little more fun from my perspective by adding to my
zinger collection :-)

Write to me directly if you don't want to make public, your most effective
zingers :-)
