WCFL...Chicago Federation of Labor
WTTW...Window to the World
WFLD...Field (as in department store magnate Marshal Field who started the 
now Fox UHF station in the 60's)
WPNA...Polish National Alliance
WCEV...Chicago's Ethnic Voice
WIVS (Wive's) for a couple owners who bought it for their wives.

WLS-TV was not that at the start.  They were WBKB or something like that...
