>>I worked with Paul Harvey from time to time and he was a wonderful man.<<

I too worked for ABC Radio, in what seems like another life, long ago. But, I worked in New York, a city that Harvey reputedly avoided like the plague.

However, he was in NYC for some reason once in the mid-1970s, so he arranged to do his shows from the NY studios (1926 Broadway at that time). I was already aware of what a legend the man was, and was hoping for just a quick look, not even an introduction.

Never happened. Studio 5 (where the Entertainment and Information network newscasts originated; Harvey's shows at that time were offered to Entertainment network affiliates first) was jam-packed, and I couldn't even get close. I had to tend to my duties elsewhere, but I was told later on that he took extra time after recording his shows to meet and talk to the people whose voices he only knew across phone lines all those years. Even though he was a legend, he never seemed to act like one, and that's why people listened to him and liked him.

RIP.
