OF COURSE it was an engineering problem-the OP managers NEVER MAKE MISTAKES!

Now they are going to have you come up with some silence sensor tht makes it
possible for them to do one less thing-like listening to their station.

I received a heated Monday morning call from a distant station demanding 
I repair the automation system NOW. A listener had called and told them 
they had dead air for 3 hours on Saturday afternoon. Upon checking the 
automation log I found that there had been no relays received for that 
three hour period. Further checking showed that this was the 3rd 
Saturday in a row that this happened. I checked with the network and was 
told that the show had been canceled a month ago.
