You are meeting the wrong liberals.  Jon Stewart-- liberal-- very 
funny.  David Letterman-- moderate/liberal-- very funny.  Rachel 
Maddow-- liberal-- like Stewart and Letterman, a very ironic and 
sardonic sense of humour, but funny.  Ditto for Bill Maher and a 
number of other comedians and talk show hosts.

Btw, Ed Schultz, who comes from a 30 year career in broadcasting and 
used to be a rightie before coming over from the "dark side" has a 
good sense of humour too.  As for me, I have no sense of humour but I 
like to make other people laugh. 8-)
