The new tower location would need to meet the FCC rules for minimum distance
separation between stations, or reduce any existing short spacing. The 250
foot antenna height is OK with the FCC, but power would be reduced to
approximately 15 watts. This will maintain the service contour of the
station to the maximum distance permitted for an LPFM station.
It is generally accepted that even though the FCC coverage contours will not
be extended because of the power reduction, reception quality within the
service area should improve because the antenna is higher and can more
clearly "see" the audience. If the higher tower is more centrally located in
your desired service area, this could be a wise move.
