Ok, just loaded Winamp, and now I have L & R. 
And audio now sounds "full", as would be expected.

First song sounded severely overdriven, but I didn't
get Winamp shutdown and WMP up and running in
time for an A/B test. 

Next song is ok, so I assume it's the source. More
testing is needed, I see....

No pop, pop, pop yet either, but it seemed to occur
after some time online with WMP.
