Download and install OpenOffice.org v3.0.1

http://www.openoffice.org/

Will open the .doc file, and should allow you to eliminate those pesky 
dots....

Save the file as  ODT (native Open Document Text) or as a Word file (for 
compatibility) - heck, save it as a PDF if you want!
