I must have been tripping the last time I bought it in Radio Shack then....
My local Radio Shack does indeed sell the mini spray cans of DeoxIT R5 in a
combo package that includes a small can of DeoxIT GOLD G5, Radio Shack
catalog #:64-4338. I was actually very surprised, and pleased to see I could
buy it locally, rather than through mail order. I found the
www.caig.com webstore
has the best prices for the larger cans and bottles. Also, if you want to be
exactly correct with spelling (including case) it's DeoxIT and it is made by
Caig in Poway, CA.
DeoxIT works differently that most contact cleaners. It actually dissolves
and displaces oxides and sulfides, and is safe on all plastics. You can look
at some of the literature at the learning center on their website. This
stuff almost always works. I have seen some nasty pots in Optimod 9000's
that were so scratchy most people would replace them. With a few
applications of DeoxIT and Fader Lube I've been able to save them. Sometimes
the oxidation is so bad from years of being in a semi outdoor environment
that after a quick spray of DeoxIT and a few rotations of the pot this white
icky stuff will come out. In situations like that, I keep flushing the pot
until the liquid running out is red (the color of DeoxIT R5), then I let it
dry and apply a quick squirt of fader lube.
Caig has a lot of other great cleaning products as well. They used to make
Cramolin, I still have a few bottles. Unfortunately Cramolin is now
discontinued, probably due to the unfounded rumors that Cramolin was made
from whale oil. I only use my remaining Cramolin B-100 on special occasions.
My husband turned me on to this stuff, he used to buy it in bulk and gave
away small 1 gram bottles to his best SWA customers at NAB conventions.
Remember, the less you use, the better it works!
