One of the ways that I've used to evaluate the health of a measuring 
location is to rotate the field meter for a null.  The null should be 
towards the transmitter and nearly 20 dB deep.  If you have that, the 
location should be good.  Generally when I do a proof I log the 
maximum reading, the aligned (with the transmitter) and the 
null.  This gives me a lot of information about the point.
