The biggest improvement that WEEI could do would be to cut 70 feet off all 3
towers (or reduce it with a skirt)! Right now, they are FAR bigger
electrically then the 180 degrees (half wave) they are supposed to be (I
believe they are around 220 electrical degrees). As a result, they have
significant high angle skywave radiation that kills their ground wave at
night! I used to be CE there in the early '90s (when they were WHDH), and at
my house about 25 miles away, the carrier used to fade with a period of sbout
1/2 hour. It would start strong, then slowly fade away to the point where KOA
came in...then it would slowly fade back in. Most aggravating....especially
since I brought it to the attantion of the Corporate DOE there and he was more
concerned with putting an equalizer on the traffic helicopter audio!

>>Whether WEEI or WRKO could upgrade to ND would depend on other
factors, as well... Who's the "oldest" station on those frequencies;
that's the one that gets first dibs on 500 kw ND-U. Since both are
50 kw DA-1, they might be able to at least switch to DA-N or ND-U at
50 kw<<
Not quite: WEEI and WRKO are both currently DA-2.
Oldest on those frequencies, AFAIK, are KOA and KNBR respectively.
