As Tom O. clarified... I should have been more specific. Sorry for the
omission.
I was, indeed, referring to the she sub-master mix, not the one EQ'd for
vinyl. Knowing a bit about the physics of the media, I realize that vinyl pressing
masters required special EQ settings during cutting to make playback of the
finished product sound right. I've never heard it, but I can imagine how HORRID
those must have sounded direct-to-CD!
I guess the next best method would be a pristine, unplayed vinyl disc, opened
and loaded into a laser turntable in a Clean Room environment, recorded
directly to digital and burned to CD in high quality equipment. Then compare the CD
to the laser turntable... that would clearly reveal any coloration introduced
by the digitization process.
