When I was at
WACE the CBS system was known as Netalert. #9 was the "bend over and
kiss your butt goodbye" signal.
I thought it was #11. Or perhaps it was 11 bells on AP.
We trashed a lot of clutter in the storage room a couple of years ago to
make room for more clutter. The CBS Netalert was among the items tossed. I was
tempted to "rescue" it as a keepsake. It would have been a nice museum
piece.
There was also the CBS voice cue channel. Someone once forgot to key off
the mic. It was dinner time. They placed a delivery order on a phone just off
mic. Yes, the American Express number they gave the restaurant was clearly
audible in newsrooms nationwide.
