Let me add a little. Often the replacement spots on the web stream
are inserted by a third party. That requires coding the spots. It's
easier for a network show because most of the codes are already there
for local cutaways. At WOR we had several codes in all breaks, so by
combining them (they all did different things) you could pretty
reliably insert replacement spots.

In the case of John Gambling and Joan Hamburg, the shows are not on
the network so they wouldn't carry the same network cues. I don't
know if WOR is using a third party. Their new digital system is
probably sophisticated enough to do the local replacements themselves.

The most difficult would be other networks that might not have as
many cues as the WOR Radio Network. WOR carries shows from Westwood
One and TRN. I don't know how elaborate their current cuing systems are.

At the time the AFTRA royalty issue surfaced there were several
networks (Premiere and ABC, for example) that prohibited any of their
affiliates from streaming their shows. That often left a gaping hole
in the day on the web or the time was filled with music or repeats of
station-owned shows.

The fact that most Talk stations carry shows from many different
networks can make the whole process a nightmare.
