>where is WTEM?

The transmitter is in Hyattsville, Maryland, near where Sligo Creek
flows into Northwest Branch (of the Anacostia River). The original
owner was NBC, when the station was known as WRC (Washington, DC).
The studios today are in Rockville, Maryland.

Back in the day, there were some decent electronics part stores near
there, too, that were worth the drive from Silver Spring.

The WTEM calls had been previously used by another DC station with a
similar sports-talk format. That station historically was WGMS (570)
-- "Washington's Good Music Station," that is, classical. It
switched from WGMS/classical to WTEM/sports in 1992. (Today, 570 is
WTNT, conservative talk, and WGMS is assigned to a WETA-FM repeater
in Hagerstown, MD.)
