I do not remember what the radio broadcasts were like during that time
because as most everybody, we watched TV during those few days until the
funeral. The TV stations were broadcasting the assassination nearly
full-time.
Back then as an electrical engineering student at the University of
Wisconsin, I was walking somewhere I rarely went--in the hallway of the
campus building that housed the journalism department as one (maybe
more) of their old teletype machines started ringing like crazy. It
might have been nonstop ringing, but I forgot. Something like eight
bells was for really serious emergencies back then.
Somebody by the TT said that JFK was shot, and the quiet day became very
hectic. TV sets everywhere were turned on, and classes were being ended
as the news spread on campus, I was told. I know the journalism classes
ended early.
