Even though the stock of
experienced engineers is declining, the job opportunities have dropped so
badly since 1997 that there still are far more engineers then jobs. No wonder
why new people aren't coming in! Would YOU go into a profession where the
number of jobs is less then half it was ten years ago?
i walked into this profession about 10 to 15 years ago. and have gotten
busier than i thought i ever would.
installing new transmitters, repairing ATU's, building ATU's, moving
studios, tearing out old studios and putting back new ones completely, moving whole
stations from one point to another, moving all rf equipment from one town to
another, combining two stations on a single tower. and the list goes on.
from what i'm finding out is there a loss of good engineers who actually
know what they're doing. and he's right, the IT guys know nothing of rf. but
what's really sad is they don't want to know.
the computers run the unmanned station but the engineer keeps it on air and
going, and going, and going.
the stations i have worked on the owners keep calling me back. they want
this done and that moved, the list is never ending.
i now do work for CLEAR CHANNEL in ASHEVILLE, N.C. and GREENVILLE, S.C..
WTOY in SALEM VA. ,WASC in SPARTANBURG, WPCC in CLINTON, S.C. among others.
and most of the business i get is word of mouth.
