Hmm,
So that;'s where all those Marilyn Monroe records came
from at WACE??

Seriously, I was replacing a universal-joint on my '57 Ford
station- wagon in the parking lot of WACE when JFK was
assassinated. I was the 19-year-old Chief Engineer and
Jack Pudney, only twenty, was the Program Director.
This was only two months after we had broadcast a live
address of Kennedy's commencement speech at
Amherst College. I did the audio feed for the CBS radio
network and NBC had a live television feed.

NBC's audio feed didn't work so I asked AT&T test-
board to patch my audio into their feed since we had
no local announcers only an open mike at the site.
That bit of help got me a badge to join JFK and the
regular news people at the Gaslight Cafe on the
Amherst Common after the address. You can imagine
an 19-year-old, at the top of the world, shaking the
hand of a famous President. That was me!

A few months later, that world toppled and we all
needed to chase another dream.

FYI, I was not aware that the FCC required
anything as a result of this event. I think that
the NAB sent out suggestions of appropriate
conduct for its members on the news-wire.
