[BC] Transmitter Safety

It's the two years in training about what? My education, which
was certainly not neglected, had about 5 seconds of HV training
(don't touch that wire) and quite a few years of on-the-job
experience. I even worked for Princeton Plasma Physics Lab,
on a "mod-reg" which supplied and regulated 1/4 million volts
at 500 amperes. The OSHA rules relate to linemen who work
on the 250 kV transmission lines. They have to complete two
years of on-the-job training before they become "certified,"
whatever that means.

So called professionals are supposed to either state that they
are qualified or receive on-the-job training to alleviate certain
elements of responsibility. Certainly, if I am hired to install or
maintain HV equipment, and then claim that I'm not qualified,
my employment will not last very long.

On the other hand, if the employer needs to train me, he probably
can find somebody cheaper and save some money.

The employer is required to comply with the law. The employer is
not required to ascribe to our morals or ethics. The conduct of the
business is simply required to be lawful.

Do you know that broadcast transmitters are not required to
even be UL complaint? Now, they don't even have to be type-
accepted. It is only because broadcast equipment designers
are careful, that there are even any interlocks on transmitters!

Of course, there is the standard of "ordinary care" used by
lawyers when claiming that some product was improperly
designed. However, now that the NAB as eliminated a life-
style, you are pretty much on your own.

If you won't fix the high-voltage contraption in the rattlesnake
infested chicken coop, somebody else will. Keep one hand
in your pocket and one eye on any other persons nearby.
Don't ignore the snakes, either. They don't bite lawyers
you know --out of professional courtesy.
