My friend (an experienced old timer)  disappeared for a couple of 
minutes.  When he returned I ask him where he went (to relieve 
himself, maybe). He said he had gone to the tower base and bent the 
spark gap  balls closer together to allevieate the static discharge 
problem. I always kept one eye on him after that.
