If I have access to the internet, I will typically keep the local 
radar in composite loop mode when I'm at a site and there is a chance 
for static build-up. It's quite the pants filler when you have your 
head or whole body fully in a phasor or TX only to see it light up 
all around you in nice shades of purple, blue, orange,  or white.....

Finally, I recall a story from the folks at WLS back in the 
70's.  They were doing work one night during a T-storm when a St. 
Elmo's ball developed.  From what I recall. the exit by the crew was 
faster than a real fire....
