Early in my experiences I was working with another engineer during the night
on a one-KW AM .
There was lightning and thunder outside and the static kept building up and
knocking the transmitter off the
air just as we were triing to measure something. My friend (an experienced
old timer) disappeared for
a couple of minutes. When he returned I ask him where he went (to relieve
himself, maybe).
He said he had gone to the tower base and bent the spark gap balls closer
together to allevieate the static discharge problem.
I always kept one eye on him after that.

They may carry me out of a transmitter building someday. We all get
careless. But when I am alone I tend
to work REAL SLOWLY.
