My experience with other stores has been limited. I've shopped Best
Buy, Circuit City, etc with mixed results. It must by my age, but a 22
year old trying to explain to me, dude, that I can't buy a laptop
without Vista was a struggle. When pressed, all I got was the
corporate jargon and when I asked if he got a "spiff" for selling a
Vista computer....."dude, you know about that, I thought it was a
secret. This guy should be working at the Pentagon.
Radio Shack is suffering from wounds inflicted by it's corporate
management. We've spoken at length about their loss of market focus.
And another aspect of that is the training that managers and
associates receive. Yes, they can name all their products, yes they
know their way around the Point of Sale system. But, they don't know
their customers, aren't properly trained to assist, suggest, sell to
those prospects. And most are poor hires by managers who know little
or nothing about their business. Add to that the frustration of trying
to hire, train and keep associates in a world where many people expect
to get a job and be rewarded for apathy and slothfulness........it's
no wonder they haven't dryed up an blown away.
