Hey Dennis,

Bob is still around, having moved back to the Chicago suburbs about 6 years ago. He still does the tech support out of his house for the full Systemation line, and the LPB SALSA systems http://home.wideopenwest.com/~bobwille/qd_set_frames.htm

Absolutely a true gentleman and a pleasure to work with.

Systemation did the Commodore 64 thing with the Nakamichi decks, then with Pioneer decks, then with Pioneer CDs and DOS. When LPB bought them we moved it to a new GUI and worked up a Windows version. We even had one running 4 individual stations (AC, Jazz, Pop, Country) from a single box with lots of cards...

Steve ran Systemation out of the basement of WDZ/WDZQ and from his giant Mercedes motor home. He had a great sales technique - pull up in that at a station, bring the owner out, sit him in the massage chair with a big drink and run the demo on monitors and a killer sound system... he sold a lot of them ;)

Ohhhhh.... mercy! We had one of those at KAML-FM in Gillette, WY in about
'89. It replaced a BE-16 reel/carousel system.

14 Nakamichi cassette decks full of commercials...impossible to traffic the
thing, because the decks all had to rewind/search at normal fast fwd/reverse
speeds to cue up. We were always getting the computer's tone bursts on the
air, similar to EAS tones. It was an absolute nightmare, and we were waaay
glad to update to Systemation's hard disk system when it came out.

Systemation operated out of the basement of WDZ/WDZQ in Decatur, IL. I flew
back for a weekend-long lesson on how to use the thing. Bob Willey was the
tech/teacher, and a true gentleman. He was always a pleasure to work with,
in person and on the phone.
