[BC] Digital TV converter boxes

Had my first experience with one of the new  digital TV converter boxes...
... not a good scene for over the air TV   
I purchases an EchoStar unit from the Shack with one of my two
discount coupons.
Here are the results:

    On analog, I can receive NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox affiiates well,  in addition to PBS and two independents
    without movingthe antenna.

    With the digital box using the same outdoor anternna I cannot get ANY signal from the NBC affiliate and the 
    four streams put out by the PBS station are un-useable.  Of course I can't get any pcture on a couple of
    distant major market stations on which I sometimes watch news..

    I am now in the process of trying an antenna mounted ampllifier to boost the signal.

It looks like a windfall for the satellite people.  But  I suspect that 40% of the current population doesn"t even 
know you can receive TV on an antenna anyway.

Does anybody know which of the Digital boxes might be the most sensitive  for weaker signals ?
