Works fine with the input. Caveat: Mic input jacks are just that- mic 
level - you may have to provide attenuation for line sources.. if 
your card lacks a line in. Some mic jacks are mono. Some have 20db 
pads built in, selectable in the sound control aplet (doluble click 
the speaker).

You do need to select the appropriate input to use the line in - and 
not mute it.

I've looked at several stations off-air, by changing only the 
frequency of the tuner and not changing any levels.

You can get a pretty good idea "who's louder" this-a-way, but of 
course variants in program materials make this far from an absolute!
