The news media has distorted this phenomena to mean "sort of like a
tornado, but not as bad..."

A microburst may not always produce destructive surface winds. It's just a downdraft
that is less that 2.5 miles in diameter.

Most of the destruction caused by thunderstorms, that is not caused by tornadoes
or hail is caused by a "gust front."

This phenomena may produce surface winds exceeding 150 miles per hour!
They destroy airports, airplanes, radio towers, and can even roll automobiles.
